The sound of skating is a short documentary, which I found
on youtube, by a guy called Tyler Vitello, who created this for his final piece
at university. What I love about this is the simplicity of the sound. The sound
of the skateboard is dominant through out the piece. The soundtrack complements
the piece really well and incorporates the skate boarding sound as the main beat
of the song. His sound track is the backbone of the piece and plays through out
the interviews.
The beat is very simple and only stretches across two bars
but the way its been mixed good, the reverb helps to create atmosphere and
helps to create space. The sound of the interviews is very clear and has been
taken in a controlled environment where all the elements can be controlled. This
makes the sound a good quality, clear and precise. Unfortunately we didn’t have
the luxury of having our interviews in a controlled environment and they are
lots of things that have affected the quality of our recordings.
The sound is very clever and really helps to create mood and
atmosphere which I hope to create in my own piece.
