Developing a character.

As well as getting the brief we also as given the task of developing a character and really bring this character alive.  Hannah and me got put into a group and started to create two characters, a dog-called Bruce and a person who suffers from agoraphobia.  B
efore going into the session me and Hannah discussed a couple of ideas about shooting a piece in 1st person and we though it would be a good idea to do it from a dogs perspective.

We where given a sheet with loads of questions to help us really develop our characters.

Bruce was a Rottweiler stuck in a poodles body, Bruce craves identity and wants to be accepted by the rest of the dog community but is held back by his mollycoddled owner who really wants Bruce to win crufts. This conflict causes Bruce to run away and he slowly realises that his life wasn’t too bad.

With our second idea, the more we developed the character the more we came to like the idea, we really started get excited and explore the possibilities of shooting a film in one single location.  We decided that this character was a guy and used the sheet to develop the character:

Greatest flaw- the fear of the outside
Greatest asset- to listen to what’s around him
Different identity-  A lion because they are free
Favourite music- classical
What calms the character down? Going into his cupboard an escaping.

As soon as we said that I think we both saw the possibilities, and telling Lee about the idea he also shared that same passion.
