To add variation to my soundtrack I create a second beat as well as a fill to help the transition between beat to beat. The second beat is in the time signature 1/16, playing a beat in this time signature allows to be quite creative as you don't have to follow any really format. I was able to experiment with off beat snare drums and create a pice of music with lots of energy.
As well as creating a new beat i also added a a piano note to every second bar. After a while the beat gets quite repetitive and becomes quite boring. The single piano note makes it feel like more of a piece of music. Adding different effects to the piano and changing the frequency i was able to change the note from a D to and E for an example. Once again this makes the piece of music a little bit more interesting.
