In this weeks seminar we had access to three actors who are
all studying drama, this was really helpful as it gave us a chance to talk
through our ideas to people outside the film industry. As well as discussing
the initial idea the actors read through our first scrip and work on a
technique called blocking.
First we sat down with the three actors all talked through
the scrip and our initial ideas. It was really useful to get they perspective
about the idea and it help us to think a lot about the character and what sort
of story we where trying to betray. It
was great to see that they where getting excited about the idea, the fact that
the drama had no dialogue and potential create a world by bring the outside in
with the use of sounds. The actors only concern real concern was trying to find
the right actor to play the role. Their
mentioned trying to get an older actor which is something where trying to do,
as it betrays a more believable story.

After talking through the idea, the actor then looked at the
scrip, they where a couple of problems with the scrip as they where a lot of
spelling mistakes and some of the scenes transitions didn’t quite make sense.
They told us that we need to give the actor a little bit more to feed off as we
don’t know much about the character, this could be achieved by putting a
character Bio at the start and a brief synopsis. As well as the Bio they told
us to put more stage directions and take out some of the description of the how
the set looks as we didn’t want to over load the actor with too much
information.
We then ask our actor to act out one of the scenes of scrip
just to see how it flowed and to help us think a bit about where to position
the camera. Try to maximise the number of shots form the least number of set
ups.
